不少人认为中国人没有信仰，实际上这是一种误解。中国人只不过不像西方人那样普遍信仰宗教，但中国人普遍有一种信仰，那就是对历史的信仰。

Many people think that the Chinese have no believe, but this is actually a misunderstanding. Although Chinese people do not generally believe in religion like Westerners, they have a belief, that is, belief in history.

中国古代曾有暴君残杀史官，因为史官如实记录了暴君的罪恶。但继任的史官对暴君的罪恶依然记录如旧，致使暴君们意识到史官的如实志史的高风亮节不容改变。这也使史官们成为君主的监督者，君主们为避免遗臭万年，不得不约束自己的行为。

In ancient China, tyrants killed historians because they truthfully recorded the crimes of the tyrants. However, the successor historian still recorded the crimes of the tyrant as before, making the tyrants realize that the noble historian's true recording history cannot be changed. This also made the historians become supervisors of monarchs, which had to restrict their behavior in order to avoid their stinks forever and always.

几年前，我陪同一对德国夫妇浏览中国江南的一座古镇。古镇的博物馆里居然陈列着一张一百多年前德国驻青岛占领军的照片。德国女士惊呼：“我们居然向中国派过占领军？！”德国男士面露尴尬，说：“你们中国人为什么这么看重历史？”

A few years ago, I accompanied a German couple on a tour of an ancient town in east south China. The museum there actually displays a picture of the German occupation forces stationed in Qingdao more than hundred years ago. The German lady exclaimed: “have we actually sent an occupation army to China?!” The German man was embarrassed and said, "Why do you Chinese value history so much?"

是的，中国人就是这么信仰历史。“以史为鉴”，是流淌在中国人血液里的智慧。

Yes, the Chinese believe in history in this way. "Using history as a mirror" is wisdom that flows in the blood of the Chinese.

最近，加拿大残杀和虐待土著居民的事实被不断曝光。北美殖民者屠杀印第安人的历史被一遍又一遍地暴露在世人的眼前。他们穷凶极恶践踏人权的血淋淋的反人类罪行将永远记录在历史的耻辱柱上，这就是历史的力量。

Recently, the fact that aboriginal people in Canada was killed and tortured has been continuously exposed. The history of the slaughter of Indians by North American colonists has been uncovered to the world over and over again. Their brutal and bloody crimes against humanity, which tramples on human rights, will forever be recorded on the pillar of shame in history. This is the power of history.
